Limerick club manager announced as new Cork hurling selector

CASTLETOWN-BALLYAGRAN hurling manager William Biggane will take up a role with Cork senior hurling team. Biggane has been announced as a selector . 

Biggane who was in goals when Newtownshandrum last won the county title in 2009 has worked as a goalkeeping coach previosuly with Cork U20 hurling team in 2023. In 2010 Biggane was in goals when Newtownshandrum were narrowly defeated by Ballyhale Shamrocks in the All-Ireland SHC semi-finals. 

Castletown-Ballyagran have been in impressive form in the Junior A hurling championship under Cork native Biggane. The south Limerick club have recorded victories over Garryspillane, Ahane and Templeglantine and they look like strong contender to reach the knockout stages.

Ben O'Connor will replace Pat Ryan as manager of the Cork senior hurling team. O'Connor comes into this job on the back of winning county titles with Middleton and Charleville. The former Cork hurler also guided Cork to an All-Ireland U20 title in 2023. 

Former Cork hurler Ronan Curran, Terrence McCarthy and Niall O'Halloran will also be part of O'Connor's backroom team. 

Cork won their first Munster SHC title since 2018 this year in dramatic circumstances defeating Limerick on a penalty shootout in the TUS Gaelic Grounds. The Rebels went on to reach the All-Ireland final where they were by Tipperary.
