THE LIMERICK District League travel to take on the Mayo District League for a place in the final of this year’s Oscar Traynor Trophy this weekend.

There is great credit due to John Lysaght for guiding the side to this stage. When he took the job back in September, he was met with a number of top players announcing their unavailability.

He stuck to his task and has been rewarded by those selected, who have turned in some fine performances.

After easing through the group stages with wins over Clare 1-0 (Tom Kidd) and Kerry 4-1 (Joel Coustrain (2), Leon Daly and Vinny Ryan) as well as a draw with the Desmond League (own goal), Limerick District beat the Munster Senior League in the knockouts thanks to an Adam Lipper hat trick and in the Munster final two goals from Leon Daly saw them past the Waterford District League on a 2-1 scoreline.

In the national quarter finals Limerick posted a 2-1 win over the Kilkenny District League thanks to scores from Vinny Ryan and Adam Lipper.

The team will be chosen from the following players; Adam Foley, Adam O'Regan, Adam Lipper, Ciaran Jennings, Conor Carew, Conor Coughlan, Dylan Murphy, Eliah Riordan, Eoin Duff, Ewan O’Brien, Gary Neville, Joel Coustrain, Joey Rushe, John Keogh, Josh Coady, Josh Toomey, Leon Daly, Raid Mouras, Sean Ezekannagha, Sean Madigan, Shane Pearse, Shane Walsh, Stephen McNamara, Tom Kidd, Vinny Ryan, Willie Armshaw.

The other semi final will be contested by the Wexford District League and Waterford District League.

The Premier League took a major twist last Sunday when Pike Rvs were held scoreless by Nenagh at the Pike Field.
The result meant Fairview held a nine point over their rivals with two games less played.

On Sunday coming Fairview have the chance to increase that lead to 12 points when they make the short trip to neighbours Geraldines.

Fairview will be still on a high after their FAI success in Donegal but Mike Shiel and Paul O’Donnell will be drilling into their team this week that they need to treat Sunday’s game as a big challenge.

The new-look ‘Dines side held Pike Rvs to a draw in their last outing and with one eye on the trap door, they will be anxious to add to their points total.

Janesboro bounced back to winning ways last Sunday when advancing in the Lawson Cup with a 3-0 win at Southend.
They welcome Ballynanty Rvs to Pearse Stadium hoping for another good run of results.

Hyde Rgs A welcome Mungret Reg in the remaining Premier game. The sides have met twice already with Mungret coming out tops by a single goal on both occasions. Hyde will be hoping for third time lucky.

In the Premier A League, Athlunkard Villa welcome Southend knowing that a victory will leave them just four points from making it to the top flight for the first time in their history.

Hoping Villa might slip up are Corbally and Caherdavin Celtic and the latter are in action in Cals Park versus Prospect Priory.
Division 1A is an exciting title race. Leaders Moyross are on the road to Caherconlish while second placed Star Rvs face a trip to Ballylanders.

Murroe slipped up last Sunday but can get back to winning ways when they host Cappamore on Sunday.
