Unemployment in Limerick falls again in October

There are almost 1,000 fewer people unemployed in the county than in July

Unemployment in Limerick is seeing a decline

UNEMPLOYMENT in Co. Limerick has fallen yet again in October according to new data from the Central Statistics Office.

New figures show that the number of people on the Live Register in October in Co. Limerick was  6,194, a decrease of 1.35% on the previous month.

There are almost 1,000 fewer people unemployed in the county than in July.

Of those unemployed in Limerick in October, 3,672 were male and 2,522 were female. People under the age of 25 accounted for 746 of those on unemployment benefits.

The highest unemployment figure recorded in Limerick so far this year was in July when 7,174 people were on the Live Register.

Across the State, the unadjusted Live Register total stood at 163,766 people for October.

Explaining the CSO figures, financial expert James Dorrian of the National Pension Helpline said that only three counties recorded an overall increase in Live Register numbers in the 12 months to October — Kildare, Offaly and Dublin.

“Nationally, there was an increase of 700 on September’s Live Register figures, which represents an increase of 0.4%,” said Mr Dorrian.

“There were 106,719 people on the Live Register for less than a year in October, which was 1,877 fewer people than October 2023.”

“The number of Jobseekers Benefit claims increased by 15.5% in October 2024 compared with 12 months earlier.”
