The Murroe-Boher intermediate hurling squad after they won the East Limerick senior hurling league title last year

BRUREE and Murroe-Boher meet on Saturday at 2pm in Fedamore in the Limerick Intermediate Hurling Championship final. The winner will be promoted into the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship grade for the 2026 season.

Last year's beaten county finalists Bruree will be aiming to go one step further than last year after losing the IHC final to Croagh-Kilifnny.

The south Limerick outfit defeated Murroe Boher at the semi-final stage of the competition on their way to last year's final.
Murroe-Boher defeated Na Piarsaigh's second team in the semi-final, while Bruree got past Feohanagh in the other semi-final to book their place in this year's IHC final.

It has been a busy year for Bruree's Brian Sexton who has been lining out for his club in the IHC along with coaching the Limerick minor hurling team and the Newcastle West senior hurling team.

“It was the plan when we sat down at the hall in Bruree and reflected on last year where I'm not sure many would have expected us to get to the county final, but having got there and having got so close and we really feel this year is about going one step further and that has been the plan all along to get to here and finish the job,” Brian Sexton told Leader Sport.

Limerick U20 goalkeeper Fionn O'Brien and Sam Williams are some of the young exciting talents in the Bruree outfit. Williams was part of UL Fitzgibbon Cup winning side.

“Sam Williams is our captain this year and he is off the back of an excellent season. He has taken great encouragement from being of the UL Fitzgibbon Cup squad. He obviously captained the UL intermediates to success as well, he's made serious leaps and bounds.

“Fionn has been outstanding and I think maybe his performances have been going under the radar and his puck-outs don't get the credit they deserve.

“The side that maybe other people don't see with Fionn is that he contributes massively at training and he is very good at driving standards from the very start.”

Both sides remain unbeaten through this year's championship. Former Limerick hurler James Butler is in charge of Murroe-Boher.

Butler feels Murroe Boher have made significant progress at underage level over the last number of years.

“Our Bord na nOg structure has been very good for a good while at this stage. We are reaping the benefits of that and I think we are competing well at most age groups. And we've had particular success with two county championships at U20 level and we've been in a minor semi-final and we've been competing at the top table, it's been very progressive” said Butler.

Seanie Tobin still remains a key player at the edge of the square for the East Limerick side.

“Seanie is a great hurler and he has been at it for a long time. His retirement a couple of years ago left a big hole in the team, it's great he is back. He's one the older brigade at this stage. Seanie has always been a serious operator and he's no different this year.”
