Knock-out picture gets clearer in Limerick Senior Hurling Championship

Limerick senior hurling star Peter Casey made his first appearance for Na Piarsaigh since last year's county final in their victory over Kilmallock

AFTER four rounds of the Whitebox Limerick senior hurling championship, Na Piarsaigh have secured their place directly into the semi-finals of the competition with a game to spare.

County champions Doon have also secured their place in the knock-out stages and Derek McGrath's side sit on six points with a scoring difference +19. Their superior scoring difference is likely to stand to them and mean that Doon are also fancied to qualify directly for the last four stage of the championship.

After's Ballybrown's narrow weekend defeat to Doon and Kilmallock's loss to Na Piarsaigh, the clash between those two clubs is effectively a knockout clash as defeat for either side would mean elimination should Ahane overcome Doon.

Kilmallock, Ballybrown and Ahane will battle it out for the two remaining spots in the quarter finals from Group 1.Ballybrown are on four points with a scoring difference of +4, while Kilmallock are also on four points with a scoring difference of -7. Ahane are just behind them on three points with a scoring difference of -18.

Ahane got their championship campaign back on track with a victory over Patrickswell on Friday. The East Limerick side know that a win over Doon and a defeat for either Kilmallock or Ballybrown is the only the way that they can remain in the championship.
