Crunch time in Limerick Senior Hurling Championship

THREE rounds of the Whitebox Limerick senior hurling championship have been played, with Groups One and Two now starting to take shape.

Na Piarsaigh currently sit top of Group One on five points after their comfortable victory over Ahane at Claughaun yesterday. The Caherdavin side are the only team in Group One to have secured their place int knockout stages of the championship to date.Mike Casey made his first appearance for Na Piarsaigh in Sunday afternoon's game.

County champions Doon and Kilmallock both remain unbeaten after they played out an exciting draw in Knocklong on Thursday evening. Adam English has been on target with 1-27 for Doon throughout the Limerick SHC.

Kilmallock, who were narrowly defeated in the 2024 Limerick SHC semi-final, have made an impressive start to this year's championship. Meanwhile, Ballybrown defeated Patrickswell for the first time since 1991 in the SHC on Saturday. Aidan O'Connor was in impressive scoring form hitting 0-10 for the Clarina side.

Meanwhile, Ahane are not yet mathematically out of the championship, they will need to win their final two groups games and hope that results go in their favour. It is the first time in over a decade that Patrickswell will not compete in the knockout stages of the championship.

Monaleen look to be the team to beat in Group Two. Eoin Brislane's side are on six points after three games and they look like strong favourites to make the jump up to Group One of the championship.

Adare, Newcastle West and Kildimo-Pallaskenry are all level on three points. Mungret St Paul's are just behind them in fifth place on two points.

Dromin-Athlacca got their first point of the championship after they drew with Newcastle West on Saturday afternoon.

Round four of the Limerick senior hurling championship takes place later this week. On Thursday evening, Monaleen take on Newcastle West in Sean Finn Park, Rathkeale at 6.30pm in Group Two. A win for Monaleen will see them promoted to group one for the 2026 season.

On Friday evening, Kildimo-Pallaskenry meet Mungret St Paul's in Ballybrownalso at 6:30pm. The final game of the weekend in Group Two sees the clash of Dromin-Athlacca and Adare on Saturday at 3pm in Ballingarry.

In Group One, County champions Doon take on Ballybrown on Friday evening in Kilmallock at 6.15pm. Ahane and Patrickswell meet in Claughaun also on Friday, 6.3opm. The ‘Well' will need a win to avoid being relegated to Group two. Na Piarsaigh and Kilmallock meet in a repeat of last year's county semi- final on Saturday in Mick Neville Park at 6pm.
