Six games took place in the senior hurling championship last weekend

Five talking points from round two of Limerick senior hurling championship

TWO round's of the Limerick senior hurling championship have been played. Na Piarsaigh and Doon remain unbeaten in the senior hurling championship. Ballybrown and Dromin Athlacca have recorded two victories out of two in group two of the senior hurling championship.

Paul Shaughnessy picks out five talking points from the action over the weekend.

1. Doon impress in Derek McGrath's second game

Doon made it two victories out of two when they defeated Patrickswell 4-14 to 0-20 in Kilmallock on Friday evening. McGrat's side have now put themselves in a fantastic position to advance directly into the semi-finals of the SHC. Adam English and Chris Thomas scoring 2-6 between them in the Doon attack.

2. Na Piarsaigh still remain the team to beat

The reigning county champions look as hungry as ever to add another county title to their roll of honour. Peter Casey is still sidelined through injury but Will Henn and Ronan Lynch have stepped up for Caherdavin based side in attack. Jerome Boylan returned form injury at the weekend against Ahane.

3. Patrickswell and Mungret St Paul's remain winless

Both clubs are yet to register a win in group one of the SHC. Patrickwell will be disappointed with their start after reaching last year's county final. Mungret St Paul's have competed extremely well after making the jump up from group two of the SHC. The City based club have lost their two games by one point. Patrickswell meet Mungret St Paul's in the next round where a win will bring either side back into contention for a place in the knockout stages.

4. Ballybrown and Dromin Athlacca battling it out for top spot

Ballybrown and Dromin Athlacca have recorded victories in the opening two rounds in group two of the senior hurling championship. Aidan O'Connor has been central for Ballybrown scoring 0-21 in this year's championship, while David Reidy has been on target with 1-23 for last year premier intermediate champions on their return to senior. Both sides will be targetting top spot in group two of the SHC.

5. Monaleen young guns step up

After Monaleen were narrowly defeated Ballybrown in the opening round of group two in the SHC, the Castletroy based side responded getting past South Liberties by 13 points. Matthew Fizgerald was central landing 0-8, Monaleen only have four players over the age of 22 in their starting XV. It was fantastic response from Eoin Brislane's side and that result brings them back into the championship.
