COMPETITION is mounting in the Lyons of Limerick County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship as only four teams remain unbeaten.

Newcastle West and Garryspillane sit at the top of the round robin table after each recorded two victories in the opening round of fixtures.

Newcastle West got the better of Glenroe last weekend, 1-20 to 0-17, in their second outing. The Magpies, who breezed past Granagh Ballingarry in their opening fixture, ran out comfortable winners against Glenroe with a 43rd minute Brian Hurley goal effectively ending the game as a contest.

They now face Bruff this Saturday evening in Ballingarry at 7pm in their third round game. Glenroe will go in search of their first win as they face Effin on Thursday evening in Ballingarry at 7pm.

Bruff also emerged winners in their opening game of the championship against Granagh-Ballingarry to put their first points on the board. Elsewhere Garryspillane also boast two wins after securing a narrow victory over Blackrock, 2-11 to 0-16. They will play Granagh Ballingarry in Bruff this Saturday also at 7pm. This is a crucial game for Granagh-Ballingarry who sit at the bottom of the table with two defeats in their opening fixtures.

Blackrock will be aiming to reignite their campaign with a win over Na Piarsaigh this Sunday afternoon in Bruff, 1pm. Na Piarsaigh also suffered a defeat in their game last weekend.
