President Higgins set to open unique exhibition at Limerick college

Irish sculptor to present first solo exhibition in 10 years in Limerick

Imogen Stuart, Collection of Bronzes

ONE OF Ireland’s foremost sculptors will present her first solo exhibition in over a decade.

President Michael D Higgins will travel to Mary Immaculate College next week to officially open the exhibition, which will feature over forty pieces of Imogen Stuart’s work.

Spanning the last sixty years, the exhibition, titled ‘In Her Hands’, will celebrate the artist’s contribution to the arts in Ireland.

Dating back to the 1950s, when the Sisters of Mercy commissioned three major works for MIC, the college has a long-standing relationship with the artist.

Late Professor Peadar Cremin, Former College President, commissioned several of her pieces for the campus.

Imogen’s work in wood, stone, bronze, steel, cement, plaster, terracotta, and glass places inspirations of mythology and dream on a shared foundation with Ireland’s religious traditions and scriptural imagery.

The exhibition will be officially opened on December 6, at JHN Chapel, Mary Immaculate College, and will remain open to the public until January 31, 2023.

Admission is free.
