Castleconnell playground is set for an expansion
LIMERICK City and County Council has said it expects to have a consultant appointed to design a €20,000 playground extension by the end of the year.
The popular spot at Ferrybank beside River Shannon was allocated money for an expansion earlier this year, and at this month's metropolitan meeting, local councillor Elena Secas sought an update on the plans.
In a written answer from planning director Nualla Gallagher, she was told that the process of seeking quotations from consultants to deliver a design for a new playground is under way.
"It is intended that a consultant will be appointed by the end of the year," she added.
Elsewhere, the local authority said it also hopes to appoint a full-time park warden to the facility in Castletroy shortly, subject to sanction from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.
"Interviews were held in September 2022 which resulted in the formation of a penal which will be used by council to fill any future park ranger positions," said James Clune, the local authority's head of human resources.
He was responding to a further question from Cllr Secas at this month's metropolitan district meeting.
