Limerick GAA stars lead fight against club property theft

TWO ALL-IRELAND winning Limerick hurlers are leading a campaign to highlight to sports clubs the cost of not protecting their assets such as lawnmowers and other valuable equipment this winter.

Star forwards - Barry Murphy and Adam English - are both founding staff members of Limerick-based TrackNow. The company focuses on providing tracking solutions across the transport, construction, agriculture and medicare industries.

And obviously Doon GAA Club is very close to the hearts of Barry and Adam.

Barry said now that the long winter nights are here, it gives thieves more time to steal equipment under the cover of darkness.

“TrackNow has a range of powered and unpowered asset trackers that can protect club mowers and equipment in the event of theft and help them to be easily recovered,” said Barry.

Adam, who will have Munster U20 and senior All-Ireland medals by the end of 2022,  said GAA club are the heartbeats of communities.

“Every player knows the hard work that goes into allowing us shine on the pitch. It is all done by volunteers who love the club. When you read about a club being targeted by criminals it is like an attack on the community. If valuable equipment is stolen it can be returned thanks to the GPS on our trackers,” said Adam

Fellow Doon man, Francis Cummins, managing director of TrackNow, said the investment that clubs make in their facilities and the costs involved are huge.

“It’s never more important to begin looking at security protection. The replacement cost of a lawnmower, for example, the timeframe of doing it and the additional cost of hiring an interim mower are all things that can and should be avoided,” said Francis.

To highlight this initiative, they are running a competition across their social media channels where you can help your club win an asset tracker of your choice for your club.

The lucky winner will also win a framed and signed Limerick jersey.
