Grammy-winning American singer and musician, Rhiannon Giddens, will perform at the University Concert Hall in Limerick next week
AS part of the UL50 celebrations, Grammy-winning American singer and musician, Rhiannon Giddens, will perform at the University Concert Hall in Limerick.
To celebrate the creativity and spirit of collaboration that lies at the heart of the University of Limerick’s campus, Grammy-winning American singer and artist-in-residence at the Irish World Academy, Rhiannon Giddens, will perform at UCH on November 24.
She will be performing alongside the Irish Chamber Orchestra & Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Libra Strings led by the ICO's Diane Daly, and artist-scholars from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.
The event will also feature two premieres of newly commissioned works.
Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh will present a musical anthem for UL, by alumnus and Hollywood composer, Patrick Cassidy and performed by the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and choir.
A newly choreographed piece by former Riverdance lead dancer and lecturer at the Irish World Academy, Breandán de Gallaí, entitled 'Croílár mo Chroí' (The Core of My Heart) will also be featured.
The latter piece is a new work where contemporary soundscapes juxtapose with medieval chant; baroque and seán-nós singing traditions harmonise and the beats of Irish and contemporary dancers show that we have more in common than what divides us.
