Gardai's security appeal after five unlocked cars broken into in same area of Limerick

None of the cars that were broken into were locked

Divisional crime prevention officer Sgt Ber Leetch has appealed to motorists to take more care over securing their cars after a spate of break-ins in Limerick.

A number of cars parked in the same area of the city were broken into and searched on the same night, gardai have revealed.

“Five cars were entered and rummaged through. A wallet containing cash was taken from one of these cars but small amounts of cash were taken from the others,” said Sgt Leetch.

“None of these cars were locked. The dashboard compartment was thoroughly searched in each of these cars and the owners need to be mindful of any personal data or information which could be found by the thief.

"The cash amounts taken were small but nobody wants to have their personal information discovered,” she added.

In another incident, the registration number plates were taken from a car which was parked in the Castletroy area of the city.
