Chamber CEO Dee Ryan: A multi-city approach is the only way to realise a counter-balance to Dublin
A JOINT study which highlighted the benefits of the Limerick to Cork motorway has won an award.
The Limerick and Cork Chambers teamed up last year for the study, which outlined the possibility of up to 5,000 jobs being delivered if Ireland’s second and third cities were linked.
Now, the two Chambers have won the prestigious ‘Most Successful Policy Campaign’ award for their joint campaign ‘Gearing up for the M20 Cork – Limerick Motorway’ at the Chambers Ireland Annual Chamber Awards, sponsored by Zurich.
These awards seek to recognise the outstanding work of Chambers around the country.
They are a chance for Chambers to showcase achievements in a variety of categories, from innovative projects to successful events, lobbying campaigns and collaborations with authorities.
Chamber chief executive Dee Ryan said it’s essential for the economic future of the southern region that the M20 is delivered.
She said: “I’m pleased to accept this award in recognition of the commitment and determination of Cork and Limerick Chamber to secure the delivery of this vital piece of infrastructure. A multi-city approach is the only way to realise a counter-balance to Dublin, and connectivity by motorway between Irelands second and third largest cities is crucial. It is imperative that the M20 project remains a priority and is not adversely impacted by cuts to budgets as has happened in the past. Our track record for delivering strategic infrastructure is on the line. Limerick and Cork Chamber will continue to work closely with the local delivery team to ensure this project remains firmly on the national agenda.”
Cork Chamber chief executive Conor Healy added: “The M20 would deliver improved capacity for both regional and international trading, completing the corridor along our western seaboard improving opportunities for trade and tourism.”
