Twenty thousand commute to Limerick daily

An SME seminar at BOI Workbench on O'Connell Street heard some 20,000 people commute to Limerick city daily

AROUND 20,000 commuters travel to Limerick City from outside the city and suburbs each day according to data released by Vodafone Ireland.

The information was gathered during their “Smart Business” workshop in the BOI Workbench. Using insights gained from the combined Vodafone network performance data and CSO population data analytics, the information provides a clear understanding of the commuter trends into the city and the sheer scale of people commuting to Limerick.

Treasa Doran, Head of Commercial at Vodafone Business Ireland, said: “We believe that smart or flexible working is the next frontier for SMEs – particularly in attracting and retaining top talent, reducing costs and increasing productivity. “When we consider that 20,000 people commute to Limerick City every day, we need to think about the knock on effects that has on business costs in terms of traffic congestion, immobility and increased demand for office space. The statistics also show that people are leaving towns and villages for employment, creating an economic drain in their locations,” said Mrs Doran.
