Sgt Ber Leetch has reiterated the importance of having a peep hole in your door and a door chain or limiter for security reasons
GARDAI are appealing for information after two women forced their way into the home of a pensioner.
After pushing past the man when he answered the front door, the culprits took cash and cigarettes from him before fleeing.
A description was circulated to gardai and two suspects were arrested a short time later.
Divisional crime prevention officer, Sgt Ber Leetch says the incident shows the value of having a chain on your front door.
“I have always spoken of the importance of a peep hole in your door and a door chain or limiter which if it’s used properly will limit the amount that the door opens,” she said.
“This at least gives you the advantage of being able to see who and how many are outside and secondly, if you do open the door with the chain on it, you are able to close your door if you are not happy with the people,” she added.
