American Airlines flight makes emergency landing at Shannon Airport

A TRANSATLANTIC jet made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport this Wednesday afternoon after the crew reported a possible mechanical issue on board.

The American Airlines flight AA-104 was traveling from New York’s JFK Airport to London Heathrow when an indicator light in the cockpit indicated a possible mechanical issue at around 7.30am.

The flight landed safely in Shannon Airport, where it was taxied to the gate. The jet was then evaluated and the flight continued on it’s journey.

A fleet of emergency services from Shannon and Ennis Fire Brigade attended the scene shortly after 8am.

In a statement to the Limerick Leader, a spokesperson for the airline said:

“American Airlines flight 104 from New York (JFK) to London (LHR), diverted to Shannon (SNN) after an indicator light in the cockpit indicated a possible mechanical issue. The flight landed safely in SNN, and taxied to the gate. Our maintenance crew evaluated the aircraft and the flight continued its journey, it has since landed at LHR. We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans, and we are sorry for the inconvenience this caused.”
