MANAGEMENT at University Hospital Limerick is again warning of “high volumes of presentations” at the facility’s emergency department.

The UL Hospitals Group said it was “urging the public to consider all their care options before attending ED at UHL, reminding them that our  Injury Units in Ennis and Nenagh are open from 8am to 8pm, Mon to Sun and 8am to 6pm Mon to Fri at St John’s.

“Injury Units are for the treatment of broken bones, dislocations, sprains strains, wounds, scalds and minor burns.

“High numbers of presentations are expected at the Emergency Department at University Hospital Limerick this Thursday. Patients attending the ED today can expect to experience extended waits in many cases.

“If you are unwell, please go to your GP, GP out-of-hours service, or pharmacy in the first instance.  However, if you are seriously injured or ill or are worried your life is at risk the ED will assess and treat you as a priority.

“We apologise to any patients who are experiencing long waits while we prioritise the sickest patients,” added the spokesperson.
