LIMERICK City and County Council has confirmed its intention to add a block of vacant properties, which had been earmarked for development, to the Derelict Sites Register.

The properties, which are located at 34-41 Catherine Street, were added to the Vacant Sites Register in June of this year.

The local authority has now erected a public notice and has informed the owner – Thanos Securities Limited – of its intentions.

The city block, which has been vacant for some time, was previously home to the former Limerick Leader print plant and a number of pubs and clubs.

A final decision will be made by the council next month.
