THIS Saturday will be a red-letter day for the Ballingarry Soccer Club when FAI chief John Delaney will unveil the club’s FAI Club Mark plaque.

The club is extremely proud to have achieved this award, club secretary James Clancy said in advance of Saturday’s ceremony. “We are the first club in the Limerick Desmond League and only the twelfth  in Ireland to be awarded the FAI Club Mark Entry Level,” he explained.

“As a grassroots club we aim to improve standards both on and off the field and with this award we are demonstrating our commitment to having proper governance and structures in place,” he added.

Mr Clancy paid tribute to those who had worked to achieve the Quality Mark under the guidance of the FAI’s Vincent Foley and our local FAI Football Development Officer Barry McGann. And he was confident that achieving Club Mark status would help lead to the improvement of standards in the club, Mr Clancy .

“While on-the-field development is important, it is equally as important to ensure the correct structures are in place behind the scenes and we fee” he continued.

The Club Mark  qualification, he explained is based on best practice in the governance, management and of a club.

“Our club is run by volunteers who play an invaluable role in the development of football in our community.

“We, as a club are committed to ensuring that all our coaches and volunteers have the knowledge to promote football for all and develop our players,” Mr Clancy said.

The ceremony takes place at Ballingarry AFC grounds at 2pm this Saturday.

Members of the public are welcome and representatives from the leagues in which the club is involved will also attend.
