Limerick gardai to clampdown on ‘illegal’ church gate collections

Gardai are warning of a clampdown on church gate collections which have not been authorised

GARDAI are warning of a crackdown on church gate collections which are not properly authorised.

Any organisation – voluntary or otherwise – that wishes to hold a church gate collection must have the correct authorisation from the local Chief Superintendent.

“Gardai wish to inform all church gate collectors that they must then carry and produce the authorisation (if requested). Gardai throughout Limerick will be inspecting them in the coming weeks,” said divisional crime prevention officer Sergeant Ber Leetch.

Application forms to hold church gate collections must be submitted to Henry Street garda station which is the divisional headquarters.

They are available at the garda website, www.garda.ie, or from most garda stations.
