Jimmy Buckley launch a new book entitled – A photographic record of Doon parish - this Friday
COUNTRY musician Jimmy Buckley has travelled the length and breadth of the country playing sold-out gigs but home is always where the heart is.
He will launch a new book entitled – A photographic record of Doon parish, as it was and as it is. The event takes place in the community centre this Friday, April 20 at 7pm.
The publication has been compiled by Dún Bleisce Historical and Literary Society. It is the culmination of a number of years work, said Michael Kennedy, of the society.
“It is a pictorial reflection of the lives of people from the parish and surrounding areas with some photos dating back over a 100 years. There are in excess of 1,500 photos, a rich tapestry of social history, reflecting change over the decades, and also importantly life as it is today, connecting the past with the present,” said Michael.
The book is priced at €25 and will be on sale at the launch and subsequently available in local shops in Doon and surrounding areas. Michael says the book is eagerly anticipated and is a “limited edition”.
“The historical society are very fortunate that Jimmy has agreed to launch this publication, as he is very popular in his home parish and surrounding areas. Refreshments will be served on the night.
“The occasion promises to be a memorable one and maybe Jimmy might be persuaded to sing a song or two!” said Michael. All are welcome at Doon Community Centre on Friday, April 20 at 7pm.
