INFORMATION is being sought after a smartphone was stolen from a teenager who was walking in Limerick city centre at the weekend.
According to gardai, the 17-year-old student was targeted at O’Connell Street at around 5.15 on Sunday evening.
“He was walking along O’Connell Street with his phone in his hand when another male cycled up behind him, snatched the phone from him and cycled off,” said a garda spokesperson.
While the incident is being investigated, gardai are advising people to be aware of their safety if using their phones in public.
“The advice is not to use your phone unless you are in a place where you can be aware of who is near you. Stop and step into a premises if you must use your phone and if you’re not using it keep it in a safe place out of sight,” said Sgt Ber Leetch.
