CCTV footage of the incident was broadcast on RTÉ's Crimecall
GARDAI have released CCTV footage of an incident during which a man kicked in the door of a mosque in Limerick city.
The footage of the incident which happened at John Street last July was broadcast during an appeal for information which featured on RTÉ’s Crimecall programme on Monday night.
“A man pulls up outside a mosque and when he gets out, he uses what appears to be a hammer to repeatedly hit the front door,” said Garda Greg Freegrove.
The man, who is wearing short sleeves and what appears to be a tracksuit pants and runners, can be seen hitting the door several times before stepping back.
“It looks like he is almost about to leave but he runs at the door and he kicks it open. He briefly enters the building before getting back into his car and driving off,” added Garda Freegrove.
In the footage, which is less than a minute long, the man can be seen covering his face in what appears to be an attempt to disguise his identity.
A taxi can also be seen passing by as he is about to drive away.
Gardai at Henry Street are investigating the incident and can be contacted at (061) 212400.
