SHE’S just 17, but Askeaton student Lucy Fitzgibbon has the beauty world in the palm of her hand.

The teenager is only in fifth year at Limerick Tutorial College, but with 45,000 followers on Instagram, her brand is already a formidable force.

And now the social media influencer, styled online as ‘Lucy Fitz’, has been nominated for a Gossie award for ‘Best Newcomer’ — and she’ll attend a ceremony this Friday night in Dublin to find out if she is victorious.

“I started my Instagram account two years ago this week. It’s always grown gradually, there was no major moment when the follows blew up. It was gradual growth,” she told the Limerick Leader.

Lucy’s main platforms are Instagram and Snapchat, but she admits she is trying to become stronger on YouTube this year.

Her account started off with photographs of her eye makeup at the age of 15. Within weeks, she was taking appointments and responding to queries about the products she uses.

And that was before she sat her Junior Cert — at Rathkeale’s Coláiste na Trócaire.

Fast forward two years, and the power of Lucy’s influence is extended to selling out events. Lucy Fitz Here & Now took place in the Strand Hotel in December, and 400 excited fans of the teen bought tickets — at €40 each — to attend her ‘girls-day-out’ event.

“It’s a makeup demo, then there’s a little talk about how I got started, what motivated me to do it, how I overcame certain problems — and just a bit of advice for people.

“There were pop-up shops and goodie bags,” she said.

She now has plans for Here & Now events in Cork, Dublin and Galway.

While her page started as an ode to makeup, her admirers have forged a connection with the girl, who comes across equal parts bashful and outgoing.

She has become known for her honest attitude towards beauty standards, family matters and teenage life, and she has a ‘best friend’ quality to the thousands of girls who watch her speaking on Snapchat.

“It all started with makeup but I’m into my lifestyle and fashion posts as well now,” she said.

Lucy, who will be 18 this August, still has another year of school left to do before her Leaving Cert.

“I thought I wanted to do science after, maybe physics because I love physics, but I think now I might do a business course or something similar, so I can keep going with this,” she said.

Lucy can be found on Instagram under the username ‘lucyyfitz’.
