A MAN with 130 previous convictions called a garda a “scumbag” and threatened to “do” him, Kilmallock Court heard.

David Leamy, aged 35, of Main Street, Kilteely pleaded guilty to threatening, abusive, insulting behaviour.

Garda John Ryan said on April 28, 2017, he was dealing with an incident at Cul na Greine, Kilteely.

“The defendant approached me, shouting abuse at me. He told me to get out of Kilteely,” said Garda Ryan.

Judge Marian O’Leary asked Garda Ryan what names were used?

“He called me a scumbag. He said if I ever spoke to his son again he would do me.

“Earlier, I was dealing with a group of youths. I asked them their names and Mr Leamy took exception to this. When I went to approach him he went into his home,” said Garda Ryan, who added that Mr Leamy has 130 previous convictions.

Liam Carroll BL, representing Mr Leamy, said his client has apologised to the garda.

“He became upset after the garda spoke to one of his children, of which he has five. He became upset and realises he shouldn’t have,” said Mr Carroll.

Judge O’Leary said the garda was “trying to do his job”.

She convicted and fined Mr Leamy €200.
