Capital Limerick grouping gains further support

Riverdance composer and Limerick native Bill Whelan

RIVERDANCE composer and Limerick native Bill Whelan has given his backing to a influential new group designed to promote Shannonside on the banks of the Liffey.

Mr Whelan is a part of Capital Limerick, a group of Limerick professionals and business people based in Dublin, who will host a sell-out fundraiser lunch in the Marker Hotel this Friday, November 18.

The group’s aim is to promote and enhance Limerick's profile and reputation as one of the state's prime economic and socio-cultural hubs, and as a centre of excellence in leadership in all fields including business, sports, politics, and culture.

The group is backed by some of Limerick’s most prominent and successful people and companies including Matheson, BDO, STL Logistics and Pallas Foods.

Mr Whelan said: “As a proud Limerick person, I think Capital Limerick is an excellent idea and I am delighted to support it. Capital Limerick will provide a really invaluable forum for those of us based in Dublin, who want to give back to Limerick, which personally has given a lot to me.

"I have no doubt that Capital Limerick will be a resounding success – when Limerick people go about our business then nothing can stop us.”

Friday’s luncheon will begin at noon, with guests hearing an opening address from Tourism Minister Patrick O’Donovan.

Following lunch, there will be a panel discussion featuring St Mary’s Park born Trish Long, vice-president and general manager, Walt Disney, and Mungret man John Moran, a director and member of the European Investment Bank.
