TUS student awarded a scholarship for academic achievement and personal determination

FINAL YEAR STUDENT Joachim Clohessy has been awarded a scholarship from O'Neill Industrial at this year’s TUS Community and Industry Scholarship Awards.

Joachim, an electronic engineering and computer systems student, has been in receipt of the bursary since Christmas. 

Joachim is also a past student of St Munchin's College in Corbally. 

The O’Neill Industrial scholarship recognises a students’ academic achievement and personal determination.

The purpose of the scholarship is to support students as they progress through their studies.

Speaking at the awarding of the scholarship at the TUS Coonagh Campus, Michael O’Neill of O’Neill Industrial said: “I was very impressed by Joachim during the scholarship interviews.”

“He has always believed that continuing his education was the right path to achieving the life he wants for himself, his family, and making a positive contribution to the world.”

At the scholarship awards, senior hurling manager John Kiely hosted a “fire side chat” with the scholarship recipients. The sportsman urged the students to take every opportunity that is available to them. 

Scholarships with a cumulative total of €185,000 were awarded to 18 students at the awards. 

The awards were officially opened by the Mayor of Limerick City and County Council, John Moran, while the closing remarks were delivered by Dr Liam Brown, Vice President, Research, Development and Innovation at TUS.
