EMERGENCY services in Limerick have recovered the body of a missing woman from the Mill Stream in Corbally.

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, was found at 2.25am this Tuesday morning following an extensive search.

The large search got underway at 11pm on Monday night following a call for assistance on a search of a section of the River Shannon in the Mill Road area.

Three units of Limerick City Fire and Rescue service took part in the search along with Gardai, the Coast Guard’s Shannon based Rescue 115 helicopter and a HSE ambulance.

Also in attendance were volunteers from the Limerick Land Search Team and Limerick Marine Search and Rescue. The Land Search team discovered the missing woman’s body in the Mill Stream and the fire service recovered her body from the water.

The woman's body was taken to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.
