Turnout at almost 50% in one Limerick box as Presidential Election voting reaches final stage

TURNOUT has risen to almost 50% at one polling box in Limerick city as voting in the Presidential election enters its final two hours.

Voters in Limerick and across Ireland are having their say on who they want to see as the country's next President - Catherine Connolly, Heather Humphreys, or Jim Gavin, who remains on the ballot despite suspending his campaign earlier this month.

Although the amount of eligible voters in John F Kennedy National School, in Ennis Road on the city's northside, was trending in the high 30s just after 7.30pm this Friday night, there was one booth which has recorded the turnout of half.

In rural Limerick, polling staff at the south Limerick village of Dromin say they also expect turnout to stand at 50% by the time stations close at 10 o'clock this evening.

Elsewhere in the county, Cappagh National School's turnout is currently around 36.3%.

Mungret National School is averaging a 32% turnout.

In the city centre, St Michael's National School in Barrington Street has a 28% turnout so far.

The three booths in Patrickswell are showing turnout at between 33.5% and 39%.

In Dooradoyle library, it appears around one-third of the eligible voting public in the area have had their say.

In Our Lady of Lourdes National School, Childers Road, it stands at 34%.

In St Brigid's National School, Dublin Road, turnout was at 37.8%.

In West Limerick, turnout was being reported at around 24% at around 6.30pm this Friday.

An hour before that, 30% of people eligible had cast their vote in one booth in Kileely National School.

At 5.15pm in Kilmallock, turnout at one booth in Kilmallock National School stood at 20%.

A source at Gaelscoil Sheoirse Clancy, in Roxboro on the city's southside has indicated turnout has been "very poor" there.
