The re-opening of the swimming pool in Askeaton has been delayed, Swim Ireland has said
A POPULAR swimming pool in Limerick will not re-open after the Bank Holiday weekend as was originally planned.
Swim Ireland has this Friday afternoon issued a notice that the Askeaton Pool and Leisure complex, due to operate again on a limited basis from Tuesday, will now have its re-opening postponed.
"This decision has been made due to a delay in receiving some of the required water testing results. As a precautionary measure, and in line with our commitment to public safety, we cannot proceed with re-opening until all necessary testing has been completed, and the results have been thoroughly reviewed," a spokesperson for Swim Ireland, the facility's new operators stated.

The company acknowledged the inconvenience this may cause to the community and patrons.
"We appreciate your patience and understanding. A revised re-opening plan will be formulated and communicated once all outstanding test results have been received and verified. Our priority remains the health and safety of all users, and we will continue to work diligently to ensure the facility meets the highest standards before welcoming everyone back," they concluded.
Askeaton Swimming Pool and Centre has undergone major refurbishment by Martins Construction since its closure in 2023.
Significant flood protection measures have been implemented as part of the refurbishment works, along with an upgrade of the mechanical and electrical plant.
The refurbishment saw flood protection measures, and upgrades to mechanical and electrical systems.
The closure was seen as necessary to future-proof the facility against flooding from the nearby River Deel and to perform essential maintenance.
