Two Limerick organisations recognised as LGBTQ+ allies with awards

The awards honour groups and recognise the achievements of Irish LGBTQI+ people, allies and organisations.

Two Limerick groups scooped awards on the night

TWO Limerick organisations, GOSHH and Mammies for Trans Rights, won awards at the GALA awards in Dublin.

The awards honour groups and recognise the achievements of Irish LGBTQI+ people, allies and organisations.

Two Limerick and Mid-West groups were winners on the night.

GOSHH won an award for community organisation of the year, while Mammies for Trans Rights won the LGBTQ+ Ally award.

Mammies for Trans Rights was formed by two Limerick women, Karen Sugrue and Claire Flynn, while Claire is also a board member with GOSHH.

GOSHH provides rapid STI testing, HIV support, counselling, free condoms, LGBTQ+ social groups and youth groups, as well as education and training, community development and outreach services.

Deepesh Simpson Shah, Chairperson of GOSHH said: “Recognition like this doesn’t happen in isolation. Anyone who walks through our doors can see the genuine passion Verena and the team bring to this work - it’s visible in every interaction, every conversation, every moment of support they provide.”

Karen Sugrue, Co-Chair of Mammies for Trans Rights said: “We’re just parents who adore our kids.

“The theme on the night was solidarity and unity and the mammies believe that has never been more important than it is right now.”
