Councillors held a meeting on the measures this Tuesday afternoon
THERE will be no change to the Local Property Tax (LPT) rate for Limerick homeowners next year, it has been decided.
This Tuesday afternoon, councillors voted in favour of keeping the LPT and its variation rate at 2025 levels for the new year.
This represents a 15% uplift on the base rate, the same as householders faced this year.

This move secures funding of an additional €2.56m for Limerick City and County Council’s 2026’s budget.
Mayor John Moran said: "This decision reflects our commitment to maintaining essential services provided by Limerick City and County Council. It’s about striking the right balance between fiscal responsibility and community support. We’re proud to continue investing in the future of Limerick."

Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Catherine Slattery added: "Keeping the rate steady allows us to continue investing in communities and planning for the year ahead. It ensures we can deliver improvements in areas like road safety, public spaces, and local
amenities. This is a vote for stability and progress."
Director general of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly, added: "The LPT remains a vital source of funding for local services that people rely on every day. From libraries to fire services, this funding helps us maintain high standards across the board. It’s a cornerstone of our annual budget planning."
In 2025, the 15% extra in LPT helped pay for the maintenance of local and regional roads, street cleaning, traffic calming, tourism development the library service and the fire service.
