Thousands of people expected to enjoy more than 70 Culture Night events in Limerick

MORE than 70 Culture Night events are set to get underway this September in Limerick, all of which are free of charge.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the free events on the one-day festival of Friday, September 20. Culture Night takes place across the country, celebrating culture, creativity and the arts.  

"Limerick, with its medieval roots, historical landmarks and a thriving arts scene, is a hub for historical exploration and contemporary cultural experiences."

Limerick communities, artists and creatives are preparing a diverse programme of free Culture Night events with the support of the Arts Office at Limerick City and County Council.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran said: “Limerick people share an enthusiasm for enjoying, celebrating and promoting creativity and culture. 

“Culture Night Limerick is an opportunity to show appreciation for the immense talent that exists locally, bringing a vibrancy to our streets and towns. 

“It is a demonstration of the energy of creativity and the pride we have in our artistic strengths and cultural identity. Join in the fun as we broaden our cultural horizons!”  

In county Limerick, exhibitions and performances are taking place. Get up close and personal with the Book of Kells in Knockainey, there are Friday Club Capers in Rathkeale and Friars Gate Theatre, Kilmallock has music, poetry and stories from a Seanchaí. 

In Limerick city, there is a Drum and Dance Workshop at Wickham Way, an Organ Recital at St John’s Cathedral, Limerick Hands on Harps at the Milk Market, and you can celebrate the heart of the traditional Irish pub at Mother Mac’s. 

A special Celebration of Youth Culture will take place at Lava Javas Youth Café in Glentworth Street. The Hunt Museum is hosting a night of glitz and glamour with Tóraíocht Taisce.  

A live music concert hosted by Sionna at King John’s Castle will feature the best of local and national live electronic music. Culture Night at Dance Limerick boasts a celebration of hip-hop culture and dance taster classes.  

Limerick arts officer at Limerick City and County Council, Etain McCooey, said: “Culture Night is always great fun.

“It is a night to celebrate the cultural, artistic and creative communities of our region by inviting existing and new audiences into our galleries, museums, workshops, libraries and studios.

“All events are free and open to all, so why not attend a range of diverse activities and events, and try out new arts and cultural experiences?”
