A Limerick city scouting group made history as they rose like a Phoenix in their 50th year!
The 23rd Limerick Caherdavin Scouts landed gold medals at the annual Scouting Ireland Phoenix Challenge which was held in Cork.
A team of eight youngsters triumphed to land the Scout group its first ever medals in the competition, which was set up 20 years ago.
In order to secure gold medals, the team had a demonstrate a variety of scouting skills.
This included assembling a site to include sleeping tenants, cooking in the open, plus setting up an altar fire, store-room, and a dining table unsupervised.

Then they had to prepare a substantial two course meal on two occasions.
The patrol was marked continuously over the weekend on leadership and teamwork. And when the scores came in, Caherdavin secured gold, which represents a grade of 80% to 100%.
Bob Halvey, scout leader said winning medals in the national scoutcraft competition is a big moment. “It is just a fantastic achievement. It’s recognition for all the dedication and work from the team and scouters as well,” he said.
