Limerick motorist detected driving nearly double the speed limit

A LIMERICK motorist has found themselves to be one of 106 individuals to break the speed limit in the first five hours of National Slow Down Day.

The coordinated day-of-action, which took place on Thursday, February 29, targets speed offences and is aimed at reducing the number of people being killed on roads in Ireland.

In the first 59 days of 2024, 36 people have been killed in fatal road traffic collisions on Irish roads. That is four more lives than on this day last year.

The Limerick driver was caught doing speeds of 91km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Dock Road.

Some other speeds detected include:

  • 115km/h in an 80km/h Zone on the N4 Palmerston Upper Dublin 22
  • 142km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N11 Mt Kennedy Demesne Newtownmountkennedy Wicklow
  • 83km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the Callan Road Kilkenny Kilkenny
  • 99km/h in an 80km/h Zone on the N6 Baile An Phoill Gaillimh Gaillimh
  • 146km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M4 Ardnamullan Clonard Meath
  • 118km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N62 Gortnagowna Roscrea Tipperary
  • 116km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the M50 Newtown Dublin 16
  • 90km/h in an 80km/h Zone on the R354 Lackagh Beg Turloughmore Galway
  • 110km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N71 Ballinvrinsig Waterfall Cork
  • 132km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M6 Kilcurley Moate Offaly
