TO HONOUR the thousands who have endured long hours in its Emergency Department, the Mid-West Hospital Campaign are gearing up to host its annual remembrance vigil outside the gates of University Hospital Limerick.
The vigil is set to take place on Sunday, December 17 at 2pm, and aims to remember those who have "spent time lying on trolleys [and] sitting on chairs in an overcrowded Emergency Department."
It has been said that despite promises to the local population of over 400,000 from Clare, Limerick, and North Tipperary, concerns are mounting over the state of health provision in the region.
"We cannot allow this to keep happening," said a spokesperson for the Mid-West Hospital Campaign. "All are welcome to attend on Sunday," they added, urging community members to bring candles, torches, and other symbols of remembrance.
Earlier this month, the Johnston family from Shannon received the UHL report on the tragic death of their daughter in UHL on December 19, 2022, nearly a year after the incident.
Despite assurances that the report would be available within three months, the delay has added to the family's grief.
The campaign group stress that such instances underscore the urgency for reform and accountability in healthcare systems.
