In Pictures: Out and about at the Limerick Civic Trust Christmas lunch

LIMERICK'S "different kind of energy" can place the city and county as the centre of the new renewable energy revolution.

That's according to the chief executive of the local authority, Dr Pat Daly, who was the keynote speaker at the Limerick Civic Trust's annual Christmas lunch.

No 1 Pery Square once again played host to the event, one of the voluntary group's main fundraisers.

Funded largely by donations, Limerick Civic Trust exists to undertake projects that make places more attractive, enjoyable and distinctive.

Dr Daly said there are a number of opportunities in the renewable energy sector, with Limerick Docks and the Port at Foynes seen as drivers of this.

"Limerick along with its regional partners has the potential to develop a floating offshore wind industry which could create thousands of jobs and make Limerick a major energy player," he said.

The council chief executive said the city is imagined as a "complex puzzle".

"The council, with its strategic planning and foresight has been strategically placing each piece ensuring the picture that emerges is a harmonious blend of tradition and progress. As critical as the council's role is, alongside the Civic Trust, the heart of the city beats in its people - the beating heart that is you, the people of Limerick, the key stakeholders in our every living day. The driving force behind Limerick's different kind of energy," he concluded.
