A thumbs up for the new playground in O'Brien Park, Clare Street Picture: Kieran Ryan-Benson
MAYOR of Limerick City and County, Cllr Gerald Mitchell has cut the ribbon to reopen a newly upgraded playground in the city centre.
The playground at O’Brien Park in Clare Street has seen a significant refurbishment, meaning it’s now open to children of all abilities to play in.
The play area has been increased and resurfaced and includes a number of new features including the provision of wheelchair accessible equipment.
Work for the upgrade was made possible thanks in part to a €50,000 grant from northside councillors as part of their own devolved budget. With the total cost of the project being €88,000, the balance was provided by Limerick Sports Partnership and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.
The park boasts monkey bars, a wheelchair accessible trampoline, low-level swings, a ball maze play panel, and a giant connect four game!
Senior executive engineer, environment and climate action at Limerick City and County Council, Carmel Lynch said Council are committed to providing inclusive play facilities
“For us, inclusivity is not just a goal, it goes to the heart of our vibrant, welcoming community,” she said.
