Consultation to be held on plan for Greenway in Limerick

The public will be able to use the proposed link from the Greenway to reach Abbeyfeale’s main town centre

MEMBERS of the public are being invited to make their views known on proposals to connect Abbeyfeale town centre to the Limerick Greenway via a cycle and pedestrian facility.

The proposed project is to be delivered by Limerick City and County Council’s Active Travel team and is being funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA).

The scheme will see Abbeyfeale's town centre connected to the beginning of the Limerick Greenway via Active Travel infrastructure.

The project will allow those wishing to use the Greenway to reach Abbeyfeale’s main thoroughfare, availing of local retail offerings in the process.

An in-person consultation event is to be held in Teach na Feile Community Centre, New Street, Abbeyfeale on Thursday, November 9 between 4pm and 7pm.

This is to offer those who attend the chance to look at high level drawings and proposed options for the project.

A non-statutory public consultation period will begin from Thursday, November 9 and run for a four week period until Thursday, December 7.

The proposals will also be available to view in hard copy form in Abbeyfeale Library, County Hall, Dooradoyle and City Hall, Merchants Quay over the same timeframe.

Senior engineer with the Active Travel team at Limerick City and County Council, Sean McGlynn, commented; “The Limerick

Greenway has been transformative for the region since its opening two years ago. The next step for this wonderful amenity is to ensure an entry and exit point is available via an Active Travel facility to the town of Abbeyfeale, where approximately 2,000 people are living.”
