TV star Muireann returns to 'childhood playground' as Crescent Shopping Centre turns 50!

It was her playground growing up and, this Saturday, Limerick’s Muireann O’Connell will return to the Crescent Shopping Centre to help celebrate its 50th anniversary.

IT WAS HER playground growing up and, this Saturday, Limerick’s Muireann O’Connell will return to the Crescent Shopping Centre to help celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Spread across late October and early November, events in the ‘Crescent 50 (1973 – 2023) Series’ include a fashion and style event, a carnival, a Paw Patrol event, radio roadshows and a customer appreciation evening to cater for all.

“The Crescent was my playground, I am from Dooradoyle and we would always end up there on a Saturday,” explains Muireann as she prepares for the launch of the celebrations this Saturday, October 21, when she will take part in a style and lifestyle event curated by Vogue Williams and involving another Limerick woman, fashion icon, Celia Holman Lee.

“It was the place you go to and it was part of my life and where I grew up. I go every time I come home. It is a place for everything, meeting up for a coffee, shopping, there is something for everyone,” continues Muireann who is a presenter with Ireland AM on Virgin Media television.

Taking place on the main concourse from 1pm, the style and lifestyle event will see Vogue Williams discussing personal style with Muireann, delving into her go-to style staples, trends she follows, her work-out routine and balancing home and career.

On her own personal style, Muireann says: “I have not got a notion of what my style is. Women who know what their style is, fair play! Double denim is all I know.

“ I am sure Celia will rip the clothes off me happily and dress me and I am looking forward to it,” she laughs.

In relation to getting into the media industry, Muireann says that she “sort of fell into it”.

“When I moved home from Australia I started driving cars for Live95 and then Spin South West opened up and I got a job there. My dad wanted me to go into teaching and I didn’t know what to do and there was a part-time job to drive and I love driving so that is where it started for me.”

Meanwhile, the launch day this Saturday will also include a curated-style showcase with Vogue’s hand-picked looks from the Crescent Shopping Centre’s fashion retailers, modelled by the Holman Lee Model Agency with commentary by Celia.

The series will continue on the bank holiday weekend with a medley of family fun spread over two days, concluding on Thursday, November 2 with a customer appreciation day where customers can avail of discounts and giveaways.

Launching the ‘Crescent 50 Series’, centre manager John Davitt said: “Life has changed so much in the 50 years , not just in terms of the way we live, but in how we shop and dress.

“We thought it would be good to look back at some of these trends in our style and lifestyle events and to also give back to the customers and the community we have built up in the past 50 years.”
