PLANNING is being sought for a multi-million euro apartment block on the outskirts of Limerick city.
Can2 Investments Limited, set up in January, 2016, intend to apply to Limerick City and County Council for planning permission at the site of the South Court Hotel in Raheen.
The plans include the partial demolition of 1,895 sqm of a building currently in use as the South Court Hotel and the construction of a six-storey, two basement, mixed-use development on a 0.935 hectare (2.31 acre) site.
It comprises 104 residential apartments divided into 51 one-bedroom apartments, 49 two-bed apartments and four three-bed apartments.
A childcare facility and a dedicated secure open space are included in the plans, as well as a gym and a library for residents.
Two retail units are also part of the large-scale development.
There is a proposed direct connection between the South Court Hotel and the mixed-use development through a new one storey and basement “hotel link” to include hotel reception, café and seating area, commercial kitchen, staff welfare facilities and an extension to the existing Cream Room Bar.
A total of 149 car parking spaces and 170 bicycles spaces, with additional secured staff bicycle parking facilities, are catered for.
Communal open space, play equipment and road upgrades to the existing site entrance and footpath improvements are also included in the plans.
A Natura Impact Statement has been prepared in respect of the proposed development.
The Limerick Leader contacted Great National Hotels and Resorts - the South Court is one of their 14 hotels in Ireland - for comment about the planned six-storey planned apartment building, however, there was no response to the media query at the time of going to press on Tuesday evening.
