GARDAI have arrested four men and seized "a number of items" this Monday in relation to an incident at a filling station on the outskirts of the city last week.
A spokesperson said gardai investigating a violent disorder incident at a premises on Ballysimon Road conducted a search operation at a number of residences on Childers Road earlier this Monday.
"The operation was carried out by gardaí from Henry Street Crime Unit, supported by the Regional Armed Support Unit and the Divisional Search Team.
"Four males (aged in their 40s, 30s, 20s, late teens) were arrested and are currently detained at garda stations in Limerick under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
"A number of items were also seized, which are subject to further investigation," said the garda spokesperson.
The violent disorder incident which took place at approximately 3.30pm on the Ballysimon Road on Bank Holiday Monday saw a dark-coloured car being driven at high speed around the forecourt of a filling station with the driver engaging in reverse donuts before driving dangerously fast around the petrol pump station.
CCTV footage of the incident, which has been circulating on social media, shows the chilling moment that a man dressed in black and yielding an implement comes within inches of the car as it speeds past the pumps before it ploughs into a fire extinguisher and continues on at speed.
The man is seen limping away from the petrol pumps. He is one of three men seen on the footage yielding implements as they chase the car and then attempt to evade danger as it veers towards them.
In the surrounding areas, customers watch the unfolding events with one woman fleeing from the scene as the danger unfolds. Other vehicles can be seen pulling away from the premises.
"It was chilling to see - just unbelievable stuff to see in the middle of the day in Limerick as people are getting their petrol and bits and pieces from the shop," said one eye witness.
