A YOUNG Limerick man was scammed out of nearly €800 after buying an iPhone from a seller online.
The 18 year-old arranged to buy an iPhone 14 from a private online seller.
They arranged a price of almost €800 euro and a place to meet in Limerick city to exchange the phone for cash.
They met in the car park on Thursday, July 19 at 7:30pm and exchanged the phone for the cash.
The buyer went home and turned on the phone to discover that it was not an iPhone 14.
He immediately tried to contact the seller but could not and he has no other contact details for him, the seller had arrived on foot so there isn’t a car registration.
Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer Henry Street garda station said: "Buyer beware is very old advice but it is as applicable today as ever.
"If you must buy something under these circumstances do not hand over any cash until you are satisfied that you are about to get what you pay for and never go alone, bring somebody with you."
