Lucky escape: Tipperary businessman Andy Egan's car on the M7 Picture: Andy Egan Facebook
A BUSINESSMAN has recounted how he had a lucky escape after his car aquaplaned on the M7 motorway during a heavy deluge of rain.
Andy Egan, who runs Silver Rock Studios, which is earmarked for a site in Lisbunny Industrial Estate outside Nenagh, recalled the incident on his Facebook page.
Posting on social media, Mr Egan revealed that his car - a silver Mercedes - did two 360 degree turns before leaving the road and coming to a halt in the grass verge.
Gardai attended the scene of incident which happened near Nenagh on Friday afternoon and, luckily, Mr Egan did not sustain any serious injuries.
It's not the first time that heavy rain has been blamed for accidents on the M7 between Nenagh and Limerick.
Since 2016, the Limerick Leader/Limerick Live has highlighted concerns over the number of accidents on the motorway during heavy rainfall.
As recently as January of this year, there were three collisions occurred in less than two hours on the same stretch of the M7.
The incidents occurred amid hazardous weather conditions and the road was closed for hours to allow emergency services to attend to the drivers and clear the scenes.
