Bilingual singer and guitarist SÍOMHA will take her audience through an unforgettable journey for a special gig in Limerick this weekend.
Combining elements of folk, jazz and neo-soul and performing soulful melodies, Síomha grew up surrounded by music, as her family listened to the musical greats of jazz, trad, folk and soul, which left an indelible mark on her musical taste and influences.
For the Clare artist, the landscape and rugged nature of her native land are a huge source of inspiration.
At the age of 10, Síomha started playing guitar but it was during her teenage years spent studying in France that she first took up jazz guitar after a chance encounter led to her learning from an Italian gypsy who taught her the manouche gypsy jazz style. Inspired by the chords and sounds of jazz, she started writing her own songs.
Travelling with music as her compass, and soaking up the music of every place she visited, she eventually felt an innate draw to return home to Ireland. Since then, a phenomenal few years have followed.
The bilingual artist was invited to tour with celebrated contemporary American-Irish group the olllam and a connection was instantly formed amongst these musicians. In 2019, she began recording her debut album in Michigan with founding member of the olllam Tyler Duncan as producer. Released in 2021, the album features Joe Dart and Louis Cato.
With music that defies any conventional genres, Síomha's remains proud of her Irish heritage, as she performs her songs in both the English and Irish languages.
In 2022, she released her debut album, titled Infinite Space. Through eleven tracks, she mixes English and Irish in a bid to combine traditional music with a more modern touch.
Síomha will perform in Dolan’s, Limerick, on Friday, May 12. Tickets are available via dolans.ie or ticketmaster.ie
