A UNIQUE event is to take place in the Hunt Museum in Limerick to make the restoration and preservation of a special archival collection.

The event, Conversations with Designers, will take place this Thursday, May 11 from 6pm at the Hunt Museum Gallery for the purpose of reinstating the Sybil Connolly Archive.

Sybil Connolly (1921–1998) was a fashion designer renowned for creating haute couture from Irish textiles.

Dubbed by the media as Dublin’s Dior, she was one of the first Irish fashion designers to achieve international success. The Hunt Museum holds a large archive of material related to Sybil's work, but due to wear and tear, many of her works require conservation.

With this in mind, the Council of Irish Fashion Designers, in association with the Hunt Museum and Anthology Magazine, will host the Conversations with Designers event which will feature designers like Amy Anderson, Helen Hayes, and Hazel Green, as well as many more, in conversation on matters of design and craftsmanship.

The inaugural event will also include an informal fashion show and will give a “unique perspective on the importance of Sybil Connolly and the archive, as well as insight into the backstories of four innovative Irish designers and how they research and create their collections”.

The audience will be able to engage during the conversation, and also to meet other Limerick based members of the Council of Irish Fashion Designers: Ejay Griffin, Caroline Mitchell and Linda Wilson.

Tickets are €70 each.
