A MAN and a woman who were being questioned about an alleged assault which occurred in broad daylight on a busy street in Limerick city centre have been charged by gardai.

The alleged assault of a man in his 20s occurred at Parnell Street, close to Colbert Station, at approximately 4.15pm on Tuesday.

Following the incident, the injured party was taken to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for his injuries which are not life-threatening.

Graphic video footage of the alleged assault has been widely circulated on WhatsApp and social media but gardai have not commented on the nature of the injuries sustained.

Both appeared before Limerick District Court this Wednesday afternoon.
