AHH, the traditional Irish pub! You can’t beat the craic agus ceol that greets you as one steps foot inside - the sound of the fiddler’s bow scratching the strings of a worn violin before playing a tune that would delight any onlooker’s ears.

That’s exactly what was heard in Kelleher’s Pub, Kilfinane last weekend for the official launch of Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh.

Organisers and musicians celebrated the bringing together of a “great weekend of music” which will take place over the June Bank holiday.

Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh returns following a four-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The weekend will kick off once again at Kelleher’s Pub on Thursday, June 1 where a singing session led by Nell Ní Chróinín will kick off the music festival which will take over Kilfinane for the weekend.

On Friday, Hup na Houra, a popular traditional dancing group will return to The Old Chapel Rooms with renowned musicians Derek Hickey, Liam Flanagan, Caoimhín O Fearghail and singer Deirdre Scanlan. Booking is recommended on 087 4548501 or by emailing ballyhouracce@gmail.com

Saturday will see the beginning of the Fleadh competitions, with over 600 participants travelling from all around the county to compete in several categories, including music, song, dance, and the popular ceilí bands competitions. All-day tickets to all competitions are available from €3.

Festivities will take place across the town, with family-fun events, street entertainment and a magic show.

Visitors can look forward to free events featuring headline acts such as North Cregg, Donie Nolan and Fuinneamh taking to the stage to entertain, along with various Comhaltas branches from around the county.

“The Fleadh is much more than a music festival; it's a celebration of Irish culture and heritage that brings people together from all over the county.

“With a packed schedule of events, there is something for everyone to enjoy,” a spokesperson for Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh said.
