The old grain store on Wolfe Tone Street in Kilmallock has been derelict for ‘a long, long time’
COUNCILLORS have backed the local authority’s proposal to sell the old grain store in Kilmallock which was acquired compulsorily under the Derelict Sites Act.
The property, which was constructed in the 1830s, on Wolfe Tone Street has been derelict for “a long, long time” heard a meeting of the Cappamore-Kilmallock Municipal District.
The site comprises a multi-storey, former commercial warehouse and land containing 0.023 hectares.
The building is listed on the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage but is not a protected structure.
The old grain store was entered on the Derelict Sites Register in March 2021. It was then brought to the market and advertised for sale by private treaty in April of 2022.
The meeting heard that there were 23 enquiries with six parties submitting bids. The highest bid was made by two men for €65,000.
Further to the presentation on the proposed disposal of property given to elected representatives, the council also prepared a report for councillors. There are more details included on the proposed new owners plans for the old grain store.
“The proposed purchaser is a cash buyer and has provided confirmation that he has sufficient funds in place to complete the sale.
“He proposes to refurbish the building for residential use,” reads the report.
“The purchaser is acquiring the property with full knowledge of the derelict site notices and covenants to complete the appropriate works so that the property is delisted from the Derelict Sites Register,” it continues.
The seven councillors in the Cappamore-Kilmallock Municipal District unanimously supported the disposal of the old grain store on Wolfe Tone Street, Kilmallock.
